The event began with a Courtesy Call attended by the Director General of ASNO, Geoffrey Shaw; Assistant Director of Strategic Communications, Felicity Spurrett; Senior Safeguards Officer, Sophie James; Safeguards Officer of the Governance and Outreach Section, Marius Basanovic; and from BAPETEN, the Acting Chairman of BAPETEN, Sugeng Sumbarjo, accompanied by the Deputy for Nuclear Safety Assessment, Haendra Subekti, the Deputy for Licensing and Inspection, Zainal Arifin, and their respective teams.

After the Courtesy Call, the event continued with the signing of the MoU between BAPETEN and ASNO, which was preceded by a speech, Sugeng Sumbarjo. In his remarks, Sugeng stated, “The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding reflects our commitment to fostering collaboration in the field of nuclear non-proliferation. This cooperation will bring mutual benefits for both parties and contribute to the global growth and development of the peaceful use of nuclear energy.”

This bilateral cooperation plays a crucial role in addressing national and global challenges related to nuclear regulation. Since 2001, BAPETEN and ASNO have been engaged in collaborative efforts to advance the peaceful use of nuclear energy, with a particular focus on security and safeguards.
