The Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN), through the Centre for Regulatory Assessment of Nuclear Installations and Materials (P2STPIBN), received a visit from the Commissioner of the Embassy of Canada, represented by Meena Bhullar, Head of the Commercial Section of the Canadian Embassy, and Francis Despatris, Second Secretary (Commercial) and Trade Commissioner, on Monday, August 12, 2024, at BAPETEN.
This meeting was attended by the head of P2STPIBN, Yudi Pramono, and several related technical staff. The activity was opened directly by Yudi by conveying and explaining the duties and functions of BAPETEN and the cooperation between BAPETEN and the CNSC (Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission). Then continued with remarks from Meena, who also explained about the trade commissioner, Embassy of Canada.
The event then continued with a presentation on "Nuclear Regulatory Infrastructure for NPP Licensing in Indonesia" from P2STPIBN. In his presentation, he explained the organizational structure and legal basis in BAPETEN. After the presentation, a discussion was held regarding the process of submitting regulations for the acceleration of the construction of nuclear power plants coordinated by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, and the development of new and renewable energy regulations that also regulate nuclear energy in Indonesia was explained.
After the presentation was completed, a question and answer session was held, including discussing the challenges for nuclear power plants, pre-licensing in Canada, information about SMRs in Canada, and discussing the meeting with CNSC in Jakarta.
