Technical Guidance on Licensing of Utilization of Ionizing Radiation Sources for Importers and Users of Non-Destructive Testing of Industrial Radiography Techniques

In order to improve licensing services for the utilization of ionizing radiation sources in the fields of research and industry, the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN) held Technical Guidance on Licensing of Utilization of Ionizing Radiation Sources for Importers and Users of Non-Destructive Testing of Industrial Radiography Techniques in DKI Jakarta Province, which was held on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.

Director of Licensing of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials (DPFRZR), Ishak opened the Technical Guidance event, which was attended by 43 participants from business actors, especially importers and users of non-destructive testing of industrial radiography techniques.

In his remarks, Ishak said that through this activity, the latest information regarding licensing and utilization of radioactive materials (ZRA) will be conveyed. "We hope that you can share with us regarding the utilization of radioactive substances in your company. Therefore, from you, there is input that we can use to improve the licensing process," said Ishak.

"We strive to provide the best service and also continuously strive to improve our services, as directed by the government to serve permits quickly; therefore, we will try our best and as much as possible," Ishak stated.

"I appreciate your coming." Again, Ishak stated, "We would want to thank all of the ladies and gentlemen who accepted our invitation. Hopefully, everything goes as well as possible."

And finally, Ishak invited business actors to be aware of the new provisions, especially Government Regulation No. 45 of 2023 concerning ionizing radiation safety and radioactive material security.

At this event, the flow of the licensing process for temporary storage permits for ZRA for importers and non-destructive testing permits for radiographic techniques for users was presented by the Young Expert Radiation Supervisor, Nugraha Dwi Santosa.

In the session moderated by Acting Coordinator of Research and Industry Facility Licensing Function, Ida Bagus Manuaba also presented material related to the Radiographic Non-Destructive Testing Licensing System related to Personnel Workload by the radiation supervisor, Supriatno.

In response to the presentations from these two speakers, many questions and inputs emerged. As indeed, all of them were responded to positively by BAPETEN and will be coordinated with related parties according to the input, which will ultimately become an effort to improve BAPETEN's licensing services.
