BAPETEN's Directorate of Licensing of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials (DPFRZR) conducted radiotherapy facility verification activities at Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri, Tangerang City, Banten, August 15-16, 2024 for radiotherapy operation licenses. This activity aims to ensure that the availability of bunkers for brachytherapy is declared safe for the safety of workers, patients, the community and the environment.
The Verification Team ensured that the design that was built was following safety standards through the calculation of the design of radiation retaining buildings and main equipment, supporting equipment, human resource competence, and operating procedures for radiotherapy operational activities using brachytherapy had met the requirements of radiation safety and source security.
The Inspection Team led by the Activity Manager of the BAPETEN Health Facility Licensing Function Group Iin Indartati with team members Yaya Umaya, Dewi Lelyana Maharani and Lilis Misnawati conducted verification for radiotherapy facilities with Elekta brand Brachytherapy Aircraft type Flexitron HDR with Ir-192 source.
The scope of the on-site inspection includes document and technical inspection of the suitability of the design of the built facility, the adequacy of the radiation barrier thickness of the radiotherapy bunker, ensuring the performance of the main equipment and supporting equipment, measuring radiation exposure, dosimetry testing, ensuring patient flow, the ability of personnel to operate the brachytherapy aircraft following the standards, inspection of radioactive source protection and safety equipment and the performance of the radioactive source safety system.
From the results of this verification, the hospital is committed to completing the findings submitted by the BAPETEN team within a certain time limit. The smooth running of the verification activities was supported by the hospital who followed and welcomed the activities until the end. The existence of deficiencies is considered as input and technical advice on the fulfilment of radiation safety according to applicable regulations and standards.
Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri, in the development of Integrated Service Cancer Center and Radiotherapy Services, it is hoped that cancer treatment can be faster and more precise to cut the waiting time of cancer patients while undergoing cancer treatment and therapy with the addition of brachytherapy aircraft.
