Guidance on Legislation in the Field of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials to Stakeholders of Irradiator Users with Ionizing Radiation Generators
Kembali 09 Agustus 2024 | Berita BAPETENThe Directorate of Regulation of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials (DP2FRZR) BAPETEN again held an online Guidance on Legislation in the Field of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials for stakeholders on August 9, 2024, especially for users of irradiators with ionizing radiation generators. This activity is part of the implementation of the Thematic Bureaucratic Reform for Poverty Alleviation.
The purpose of this activity is to socialize regulations related to irradiators with ionizing radiation generators and also to listen to the experience of implementing legislation from irradiator users. It is expected that the irradiator industry will continue to develop and indirectly improve the economic level of the Indonesian people because Indonesian products can increase in value after being irradiated.
The activity was officially opened by the Director of DP2FRZR, Mukhlisin, who said that the development of laws and regulations that have been issued is one of BAPETEN's tasks to improve compliance with standards and regulations and improve protection for workers, the community, and the environment. He also said that the use of irradiation technology with irradiators has great potential to improve the balance of trade with other countries, which will indirectly have a positive impact on the standard of living of the Indonesian people.
"By utilizing this technology, we can improve the quality and competitiveness of export products so that Indonesia's export value can continue to grow amidst increasingly heated global competition," he added.
In order to optimize the benefits of this technology, close coordination with various related ministries is very important. The synergy between these institutions will ensure that the licensing and supervision aspects of the use of irradiators can be carried out as well as possible. Therefore, the policy of simplifying licensing will continue to be encouraged, without reducing the safety guarantee, which is the main priority.
The event continued with a presentation by Chrisantus Aristo WD on BAPETEN Regulation Number 3 of 2020 on Radiation Safety in the Use of Irradiators for Irradiation. The presentation focused on radiation safety requirements for category I and category II irradiators with ionizing radiation generators. It was conveyed that BAPETEN Regulation Number 3 of 2020 refers to the IAEA SSG-8 Radiation Safety of Gamma, Electron, and X-Ray Irradiation Facilities document.
The second presentation was delivered by Kiki Setiawan, Radiation Protection Officer from PT Bridgestone Tire Indonesia, on Experience in Complying with Regulations in the Use of Category I Irradiators with Ionizing Radiation Generators. Irradiators are used in production lines by taking one of the uses of irradiators, namely polymerization.
Then the third presentation was delivered by Eko Setiono, Assistant Manager of PT Nipro Indonesia Jaya, on Experience in Complying with Regulations in the Use of Category II Irradiators with Ionizing Radiation Generators. PT Nipro uses irradiators in production lines to sterilize its products, namely medical devices. From these two speakers, there was the same input, namely the constraints on certification of skilled workers to meet the requirements for issuing a work permit (SIB).
In the discussion session, participants were enthusiastic in providing questions, responses, and input on the regulations for using irradiators. The topics discussed were technical requirements that may still be adjusted to meet the requirements depending on the condition and design of the equipment and constraints on training, certification, and issuing a work permit (SIB).
